WebThe Arduino was connected to my computer (ASUS laptop) via a USB B cable. I wasn't having any success, so I tried connecting a 9V battery to the breadboard, such that they were connected to the Vin and Ground pins on the arduino. My computer instantly turned off, and now won't start up. Even when plugged in, the battery charging light remains off. WebMost likely when you shorted 5V with your meter you fried the little diode between USB 5V and Arduino 5V. This is the little black thing on the bottom of the board under the USB connector. I burn these all the time. It's a 500mA schottky diode. You can replace this with any schottky diode rated 500mA or higher.
